Tasting - FlipFlop: Moscato

Name: Flip Flop
Variety: Moscato
Region: California
Country: USA
Year: 2010
Price: $6.19

Flip Flop's Review:
Tastes like: Light-bodied Moscato with floral aromas, semi-sweet palate, and a soft, lingering finish. It is full of Crisp, bright aromas balance sweet notes - FlipFlop **http://www.flipflopwines.com/wines/california-moscato/**

My First Impression: This Label was my first impression and I was very excited. I had been told by my family that I would like white wines. But after that last white wine I was scared.

After Smelling it:  It had a light flowery (the flowers that smell good) and fruity smell. I didn't spend much time smelling this wine after I smelled the fruity-ness.

After Tasting it: The first flavor I tasted was apple but a very sweet apple, similar to apple juice. After continuing to drink this wine I could taste melons and tangerines. This was a very light crisp wine and I enjoyed it greatly. There was an after taste but it was very short-lived. This has been my favorite wine so far!

Tasting - Villa Wolf: Gewurztraminer

Name: Villa Wolf
Variety: Gewurztraminer
Bottled In: Wengerohr
Country: Germany
Year: 2010
Price: $11.29

Winery Review: Villa Wolf Gewürztraminer is clean, fruity and wonderfully light on its feet. It shows off the aromatic charm of the variety with the deliciously juicy texture and a delicate aroma of spice and fresh roses. - Villa Wolf **http://www.jlwolf.com/wines_vines.htm**

My First Impression: Finally a white wine. The name... hard to pronounce... but when our group trys to say it all we can do is laugh. All we hear in our heads..."it rhymes with ithurtsmywiener." Thanks to Boyer!

After Smelling it: YUCK! Smells like a moldy attic in a grandmas house. Atleast thats how most of us in the group described it, myself included. It has a old musty smell to it, but after swirling it around in my glass for a bit I could smell some spice and maybe a hint of flowers. So mix an old musty attic with a funeral home. Not something I really am interested in drinking now.

After Tasting it: It tastes as bad as it smells. There was a crispness citrus taste with some spice following behind it. The aftertaste was medium lived (i.e. it was bearable) and was tart/sour. However I had some buttery crackers and tasted again and that tart/sour taste was not as bad and could somewhat enjoy/finish my glass of wine. I guess I do not enjoy the taste of fresh roses with spice.

Tasting - Crane Lake: Petite Sirah

Another Red Wine chosen due to the animal on the bottle - Crane Lake
Name: Crane Lake
Variety:Petite Sirah
Region: California
Country: USA
Year: 2010
Price: $4.59 - "You get what you pay for?"

Winemaker Review: “This wine is ruby-purple colored; notes of very fresh cherries and plums predominate the nose and flavors. The tannins give a soft, full mouth feel.”  - Larry Rocha, Winemaker **http://classicwinesofcalifornia.com/images/Crane_Lake_2010_PS.pdf**

My First Impression: Another red wine... the last one wasn't horrible like I expected, hopefully this one will be tolerable as well. This wine does look a little darker than the last one and we also didn't pay too much for it so I am still a little hesitant.

After Smelling it: It also has a light scent like The Little Penguin Merlot. There is a hint of berry but not a very sweet maybe blackberry or a black cherry.

After Tasting it: This Petite Sirah is more dry than the Merlot. It had a tart/acidic taste that lingered for a while. This Petite Sirah seemed more thick and filling that the Merlot. After eating some buttery crackers the plum taste came out.

First Taste of Wine - The Little Penguin: Merlot

A Pretty Blue Label and a Cute Little Penguin how could we go wrong
Name: The Little Penguin
Variety: Merlot
Region: South Eastern Australia
Country: Australia
Year: 2010
Price: $6.99

Winery Review: Smooth as diving into the sea, this Australian merlot is a deep brilliant red. Fleshy ripe strawberries and juicy blueblerries entice the palate into a meandering river of black fruits and spice. The palate is soft and stylish with superbly ripe merlot fruit. Leading to a long sweet finish. Serve it up with hard cheeses , BBQ tri tip or asain cusine.

My First Impression: Ugh! Its a red wine. It's not going to be sweet and I'm going to hate it.

After Smelling it: There was a very light smell (very unexpected). There was a slight berry smell.

After Tasting it: This wine seemed very smooth and sweet with a tart aftertaste. The berries that I smelled I could taste but they seemed to be tart berries. Since we are new to wine tasting it was hard to come up with words, so we looked up a list of words to describe wine. After looking at the list of words this wine seems to be lucious and velvety. After 2 glasses of "tasting this wine I seemed to actually enjoy it.
